How to use the Traffic share by domains report
This report shows the domains that get the most organic traffic based on your seed keywords in your target country.
Unlike the keyword ideas reports which only support up to 10 seeds, the Traffic share by domains report is generated based on up to 10,000 keywords.
For best results, it’s recommended that you use multiple keywords instead of a single one.
See who your major competitors are
Let’s say you’re trying to start a new website about beards.
Enter a few relevant seed keywords (e.g., beard, beards) into Keywords Explorer and go to any of the keyword ideas report.
Choose a few keywords from the list (up to 10,000) and enter them into the search bar again. Go to the Traffic share by Domains report.
Here, you’ll see the domains that are ranking for the keywords you’ve entered. For this particular set of keywords, we see general sites like gq.com and menshealth.com.
Besides general sites, you’ll also see niche sites like beardbrand.com. Enter these domains into Site Explorer and go to the Top pages report.
You can see what keywords they’re ranking for. These could be keywords you might want to target.
See search intent for a niche
In the same example, we can see that YouTube owns a significant share of the traffic.
This suggests that if you want to maximize your website’s exposure, you might want to create videos.
The presence of Amazon may also suggest that it is a niche with a lot of transactional queries.
