How to use the Top Subdomains report

In this report, we show which subdomains on a target website receive the most organic traffic.

Below are some actionable ways to use this report.

See which of your competitors’ subdomains get the most organic traffic

Enter a competitor’s domain into Site Explorer and go to the Top Subdomains report.

Looking at hubspot.com, we see that the blog and the main domain make up 79% and 17% of their total search traffic respectively.

This is a great way to understand the traffic distribution across an entire domain and find inspiration for your own site structure.

Hit the number under the “Pages” column to see the pages that drive the most search traffic to that subdomain.

Find low-competition topics

Keyword Difficulty (KD) estimates how hard it will be to rank in the top 10 search results for a given keyword. It's scored on a scale from 0-100.

Follow the same method as above, but this time, set the KD filter to a maximum of 10.

NOTE. The number suggested for the KD filter will vary based on your niche. Feel free to play around with the filter until you see a worthwhile number of results in the "Keywords" column.

Hit the numbers under the "Keywords" column to see low-competition topics that might be worth targeting.
